Doris Russell Morgan

Doris Russell Morgan, 91, of Rockwell, passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2017 at her home in Rockwell. She was the loving wife of the late Baxter Monroe Morgan whom she married on April 29, 1947.

Doris was born on January 18, 1926 to the late William and Maggie Leazer Russell in Salisbury, NC. She graduated from Boyden High School in Salisbury. She was a lifetime member of Liberty United Methodist Church in Gold Hill.

Doris was a member of the local Rowan Rose Society. She served as outstanding Judge and outstanding Consulting Rosarian for the Carolina District of American Rose Society and was awarded the Silver Medal of Honor of the American Rose Society. She also was given the honor of having a pink rose named after her, "The Doris Morgan Rose".

Doris loved to grow roses and go to the beach with her husband. She was a loving wife and mother who loved to spoil her children. She will be greatly missed by all.

In addition to her husband Baxter and her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her Aunt Essie Russell and Uncle George Russell who helped to raise her; and two sisters, Peggy Yost and Katherine Abernathy.

She is survived by her son, George Russell Morgan and wife Martha of Salisbury; two daughters, Kay Morgan and husband Terry Deese of Newton, and Pam Morgan Brunell and husband Jeff of Davidson; her special adopted daughter, Donna Ridenhour and husband Freddie of Rockwell; two grandchildren, Danielle Cooney and husband Michael of Denver and Michael Morgan of Denver; great-grandson, Colin Cooney of Denver; and sister Ann Brown of Lexington.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of those who loved and cared for Doris during her illness. Your kindness and compassion will not be forgotten.

The family will received friends on Sunday, January 29, 2017 from 1:30-3 pm at Liberty United Methodist Church in Gold Hill. A service will follow at 3 pm in the church with Rev. Charlie Curtis, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Liberty United Methodist Church.
