SALISBURY - Louie Alexander Swicegood Jr., 87, of Salisbury, passed away Thursday, Dec. 18, 2014, at Kiser Hospice House.

Born in Rowan County Dec. 3, 1927, he was the son of the late Louie Alexander Swicegood and Mary Kluttz Swicegood.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, Louie retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad where he worked for 43 years. He was also a volunteer fireman for many years at Ellis Crossroads Fire Department. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church.

Louie's passion was "The Gift of Life." He led by example, donating to the Red Cross. Every 56 days he rolled up his sleeve and gladly donated blood with a big smile on his face. Over 17 years, he donated over 100 pints of blood.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Pearl Morgan Swicegood; and sister Jane Swicegood Morgan.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Rose H. Swicegood of Salisbury; daughter Julie Jordan (Teddy) of Salisbury; granddaughter Roxanne Davis of Salisbury; sisters Nell Brown of Salisbury, Louise Weant of Zebulon; stepson Terry Holshouser of Fancy Gap; stepdaughter Belinda Hester of Raleigh; three step-grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Entombment Service: 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22 at the Lakeside Mausoleum of Rowan Memorial Park with the Rev. Carroll Robinson officiating. Military rites will be performed by the Lyerly Volunteer Honor Guard.

Memorials: May be made to Autism Society of North Carolina; American Red Cross; or a charity of the donor’s choice.
