SAGE –PEARL SAGE CLAGETT, 93, widow of Fred L. Clagett, formerly of Rummerfield died Friday morning, June 16, 1995 at the Dar-Way Nursing Home, Elkland Twp., Pa. where she had been a resident since 1980. Born Oct. 2, 1901 in Rummerfield, Standing Stone Twp., Pa., she was a daughter of Frank and Louise Schoonover Sage. Pearl attended the Fisher school and on Nov. 4, 1922 she married Fred L. Clagett, who was a son of Thomas and Jessie Mitten Clagett of Rummerfield. On the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary, Nov. 4, 1972 they were honored by a community reception at the Standing Stone United Methodist Church, the event being a thoroughly happy one with more than 200 friends and neighbors attending. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred on Jan. 8, 1976. For many years Mr. and Mrs. Clagett operated their general store in Rummerfield formerly established by Mr. and Mrs. Milton H. VanNess. Mr. Clagett also served as Post Master and Mrs. Clagett as Assistant Post Master of the Rummerfield Post Office which was located in their general store. Mrs. Clagett was a member of the Standing Stone United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, Wysox Rebekah Lodge No. 443 and the Lady Whitmore Club. Mrs. Clagett’s main interest in life encompassed her home and family. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother and will be remembered by her family and many friends for her kind and gracious manner. Surviving are: two daughters and sons-in-law: Marjorie and Bert L. Williams of Towanda, Janice and Jack Corbett of Towanda RR 5; five grandchildren and their spouses; Bonnie and Gary Hettinger of State College, Pa., Randy and Nancy Williams of Towanda RR 5, Wendy and Paul Manchester of Towanda RR 1, Debra and Jeffrey Jones of Towanda RR 5 and Kim and Kathy Corbett of Towanda; 15 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Jane Tiffany of Sayre; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Duane Corbett in 1974; a sister, Christine Sage; two brothers, Claude Sage and Carl Sage. A graveside service will be held Monday, June 19, 1995 at 1 p.m. at the Standing Stone Cemetery, Standing Stone Twp. with the Rev. Allen Hulslander, pastor of the Towanda First United Methodist Church officiating. The family suggests that memorials may be directed to the Standing Stone United Methodist Church in care of Ellen Franklin, RR 2, Wysox, Pa. in Mrs. Clagett’s memory.
