Charles Burris
Sunday, February 1, 2009 — Charles Lee Burris, 83, of 25391 Millingport Rd, Locust, died Friday, Jan. 30, 2009, at his home.
He was born Aug. 23, 1925 in Cabarrus County. Mr. Burris was employed by Monumental Insurance as an insurance agent.
He served in the US Marine Corp during WWII in the South Pacific. He participated in combat action in Okinawa and the Ryukyu Islands. He received the Good Conduct Medal.
He also participated in the occupation of Japan. He loved fishing hunting, gardening and yard work.
He was a charter leader of Boy Scout Troop 202. He was also a charter member of the Ridgecrest Fire Department.
The family will meet at the home.
Military honors graveside by Albemarle- Stanly County DAV Chapter 12.
He was the son of the late Phylas Lee Burris and the late Ulla Ellen (Lambert) Burris. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Marsha Carol Burris and 4 sisters and 3 brothers.
He is survived by his wife Margaret Lucille (Huneycutt) Burris of the home; son, Danny Charles Burris and wife Bonnie of Locust; daughter, Pamela Burris Little of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; daughter, Debra (Burris) Hinson and husband Jake of Locust; daughter, Tammy (Burris) Harwood and husband Scott of Locust; brother, Robert Louis Burris of Mt. Pleasant; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren
Arrangements are being handled by Hartsell Funeral Home- Albemarle, P. O. Box 7, Albemarle, N.C., where the family will receive friends from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009.
Funeral service will be at Mission Baptist Church-Locust, at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2, 2009, with a 30-minute state. Dr. Ronny Russell officiating.
Interment will be at Mission Baptist Church Cemetery in Locust
Memorials may be made Albemarle Marine Corp League.
