RALEIGH - Mrs. Betty Lou Moyle Newell, 77, of Raleigh, formerly of Concord, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2009, at Rex Hospital. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Carolina Memorial Park in Concord, with the Rev. Marvin Honeycutt officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at the cemetery.
Mrs. Newell was born on May 2, 1931, in Stanly County, daughter of the late Luther Foy and Stella Eudy Moyle. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Annie L. Almond.
The Newells had lived in Concord until 2006 when they moved to Raleigh to be with their daughter and her family. Betty enjoyed quilting and sewing.
Survivors include her husband, Gilbert G. "Sonny" Newell, who resides at the NC State Veterans Nursing Home in Fayetteville; daughter, Belinda Swaringen and husband, Scott, of Raleigh; grandchildren, Kevin and Shannon Swaringen, of Raleigh; sisters, Ruby Eudy, of Albemarle and Hilda Bean, of Concord; brothers, Jack and Foy Moyle, of Mt. Pleasant, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to United Hospice of Smithfield, 332 N. Brightleaf Blvd., Smithfield, NC 27577.
Wilkinson Funeral Home of Concord is in charge of arrangements.
