Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2006 — Vernon Lee Hatley, 83, of 33426 Old Salisbury Road, Albemarle, died at 12 a.m. Monday, Sept. 18, 2006, in Britthaven of Piedmont. His funeral will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Hartsell Funeral Home’s Lefler Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Ronnie Dry will officiate and burial will be in Ridgecrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 to 4 p.m. prior to the funeral. Born April 8, 1923, in Stanly County, he was a son of the late John Henry and Nettie Almond Hatley and was a 1941 graduate of Ridgecrest High School. He received many awards working as a used car manager for Confederate Motors for more than 25 years. His wife, Edith Marie Whitley Hatley died in 1993. He is survived by two daughters, Jolene Hatley Stoker of Albemarle and Patricia Hatley Medlin of Oakboro; two sons, Darrell Hatley of Richfield and Randy Hatley of Locust; two brothers, Curtis Hatley and Dee Hatley both of Locust; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
