Salisbury - Herman Ray File, 87, of Salisbury, passed away Friday, Jan. 6, 2012 at the Brookstone Retirement Center in Lexington.
Born Dec. 2, 1924 in Rowan County, he was the son of the late Ceberry A. and Roxie A. Eller File.
Mr. File was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in Germany during World War II. He retired from North Carolina Finishing Company. Mr. File loved to garden, the outdoors and repairing small engines including chainsaws and lawnmowers. He was a member and deacon at Dunn Mountain Baptist Church, and previous member and music director at both Wyatt Grove Baptist Church and First Baptist Church in East Spencer.
He is preceded in death by one grandson Kenneth (Little Man) File.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years who he married on Oct. 26, 1943, Ann Elizabeth Shepherd File of Salisbury; three sons, Mark File of Greensboro, Jerry File and wife Karen of Salisbury and Wayne File and wife Brenda of Mechanicsville, Va; daughter Betty Sue Webb of Rockwell; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 10-11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 9, 2012, at Lyerly Funeral Home.
Service: 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 9, 2012 in the James C. Lyerly Chapel. The Rev. Max Vanderburg will officiate. Burial will be in the Rowan Memorial Park Cemetery following service.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Alzheimers Activity Fund, Brookstone Retirement Center, Lexington, NC.
