Samuel Lee “Sammy” Shepherd

Samuel Lee Shepherd (Sammy), 67, of Salisbury, passed away Sunday, April 23rd surrounded by his loving family after fighting a courageous battle with Myasthenia Gravis.

Born December 30, 1955, to the late Charlie and Inez Shepherd, Sammy was a graduate of East Rowan High School and attended Rowan Cabarrus Community College. Known for his quick wit and sense of humor, Sammy never met a stranger. He enjoyed many years of fishing, hunting, woodworking, and camping. He loved seeing his grandchildren learn and grow as they always made him smile. He loved sitting around a campfire telling stories of his life adventures as a former correctional officer and fugitive officer with the North Carolina Department of Corrections. He retired as an engineer from Norfolk Southern Railway after more than 30 years where he forged many lifelong friendships. Mentored as a master mason by his late father-in-law, Jack Richardson. Sammy was a member of Keller Memorial Lodge of Rockwell, NC, and Oasis Shriners.

Sammy is survived by his wife of 44 years, Ann Richardson Shepherd; sons, Michael Shepherd (A.J.) and Eric Shepherd (Lara); sister, Sheila Shepherd; brother, Larry Shepherd; and the loves of his life his grandchildren, Ruby, Rhett, and Tucker Shepherd all of Salisbury, NC.

The family will greet friends and relatives on Saturday, April 29, 2023, 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church Family Life Center, Salisbury, NC.

The memorial service will be held at 2:30 pm on Saturday, April 29, 2023, in the St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Salisbury, NC, with Pastor Jarrod Lanning officiating and Masonic Rites to follow.

Memorials may be made to St. Matthew's Lutheran Youth Ministry, 9275 Bringle Ferry Road, Salisbury, NC.
