George Luther "G.L." Barringer
George Luther "G.L." Barringer, 81, of Salisbury, passed away Thursday, February 4, 2021.
He was born March 7, 1939, in Rowan County to the late Ross E. and Evelyn Aliene Barringer. Mr. Barringer was a 1957 Graduate of Rockwell High School where he was a member of the championship winning basketball team and then attended NC State University. Mr. Barringer attended St. Matthew's Lutheran Church where he helped teach Sunday School. He worked for Cozart Lumber Company, Kern Roll and Rubber, was a framer and cabinet maker for Hannah Construction, before retiring from Kosa. He was best known as the Scout Master of Troop 333 during the 1970s and for his real passion, farming. Over the years he raised cows, pigs, hogs, and chickens, and for the last several years, grew corn and soy beans. He enjoyed researching his family's genealogy and has meticulous notes of his work.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Barringer was preceded in death by his grandparents, Albert Sidney and Martha Barringer and William Edgar and Sophia Cozart.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Agner Barringer, whom he married June 15, 1958; son, Geoffrey Mark Barringer; daughter, Carol Lynn Barringer; and his grandson, Levi Ray Morgan.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, February 7, 2021, in the chapel of Powles Staton Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. Darrell Norris.
Burial will follow the service at Providence United Methodist Church in Salisbury.
