Dorothy Furr Hopkins
Dorothy Mae "Dot" Furr Hopkins, 75, of Britthaven, went to be with her saviour Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010, after a short illness with pneumonia related to a long battle with Alzheimer's.
Born July 19, 1934, in Cabarrus County, she was a daughter of the late Paul S. Furr and the late Fannie Durilla Moyle Furr. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Ray "Smiley" Hopkins; son, Kenneth Ray Hopkins; brothers, Kenneth Furr and Doyle Furr; and a sister, Bernice Thompson.
She is survived by her son, Terry Alan Hopkins and wife Janie of Albemarle; daughter, Cathy Hopkins Bell and husband Robert of Huntersville; brothers, Cecil Furr, Jay Van Furr and Donnie Furr, all of Albemarle; sisters, Louise Holt and Peggy Holt of Albemarle; grandchildren, Katie and Noah Hopkins of Albemarle and Francis Nisi-Bell of Huntersville.
She was a retired housekeeper for the Lutheran Home of Albemarle after 12 years of loving service. She was a devoted wife and loving mother. She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. She liked to read and garden.
The family will meet at the home of her son, Terry Hopkins, 218 N. 6th St., Albemarle.
The family will receive friends from noon until 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, at Hartsell Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Les Scofield officiating. Burial will be at Palestine Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association, Charlotte, NC.
