James Alvin Hill
The funeral will be Saturday for James Alvin Hill, 75, Salisbury, who died Thursday (Oct. 3, 2002) at his home.
Born Feb. 4, 1927, in Rowan County, Mr. Hill was a son of the late Charles Lee and Emma Stoner Hill. He was educated at Shaver and Morgan schools.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in World War II. He worked for Macanal Mills. Retired from Cone Mills after 41 years, he operated Hills Bait and Tackle Shop on St. Matthews Church Road.
He was a lifelong member of Liberty United Methodist Church.
A son, James Donald Hill, died Aug. 9, 1949.
Survivors include wife Molly Reid Hill, whom he married Dec. 24, 1947; other sons Alvin Ronald and Gary Wayne Hill, both of Salisbury; daughter Barbara Sue Tomlinson, Linwood; brothers Raymond and Johnny Hill, both of Salisbury; sisters Doris H. Morgan and Rachel H. Fesperman, both of Salisbury, and Agnes H. Dry,Gold Hill; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Liberty United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Mark Helms. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30. Burial, church cemetery. Military rites by Rowan County Veterans Council.
Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight,Powles Funeral Home,Rockwell. At other times the family will be at the home.
Memorials: Rowan Regional Home Health and Hospice or American Cancer Society.
