SALISBURY - Alice Jean Lyerly, 72, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Jean was born in Salisbury, on Aug. 16, 1936, to the late William Herbert and Mattie McCombs Lyerly.
Jean attended Granite Quarry Schools in the 1940's and early 1950's and Rowan Vocational Opportunities since 1976. She became a resident of Rowan Homes in 1994, living at Stanley and Shamrock. She moved to Catawba House of RHA in 2002.
Jean enjoyed her participation in ROV activities including the parties and the day-to-day activities of the group. She had many friends at the workshop, the group home and her church. She enjoyed attending the First United Church of Christ and was a faithful member all of her life. She was recognized in 2006 for her many years of faithful attendance.
Jean was preceded in death by sisters, Kathryn Lyerly Cope of Spencer and Rachael Lyerly Benson of Granite Quarry.
Survivors include brothers, William H. Lyerly, Jr. of Sun City West, Ariz., Thomas Joseph Lyerly of Granite Quarry and James Edward Lyerly of Salisbury; her sister-in-law, Bettie Lyerly; brother-in-law, Vernon Benson; and many nieces and nephews.
Service and Burial: 11 a.m. Monday at the First United Church of Christ with Rev. Michael Childress officiating. Burial will follow at Rowan Memorial Park.
Visitation: 10-11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 5 at the First United Church of Christ
