Notes for Mary Alice Bristol
Mary Alice Fraley

Mary Alice Fraley, 92, Hayesville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday morning, July 15, 2010 from natural causes.

Funeral Services were held on Saturday, July 17, at Hayesville First United Methodist Church.

Mary Alice is survived by her daughters Ann Fraley and Sally Hobson, her son in law Norman Hobson, and her grandsons Casey Hobson and Josh Hobson, daughters in law Liz Hobson and Brittny Hobson, and great grandchildren Riggs, Bowen, Easton, Reagan, and Catcher Hobson.

She was preceded in death by her Father Frank Bristol, mother Odin Bristol, and husband Clyde Fraley.

Mary Alice was born July 11, 1918 in Andrews, North Carolina. She lived in Andrews throughout her childhood and early adult years.

In 1941, she met and married Clyde Fraley. The couple gave birth to their first daughter, Ann, in 1945 and their second daughter Sally in 1949. They moved to Hayesville in 1952, and the Fraley name has been a fixture in the community ever sense.

In 1975, after losing her beloved husband Clyde, Mary Alice went to work for the Department of Social Services, where she worked until she retired at the age of 75. She enjoyed her job, but enjoyed the people with whom she worked the most.

She was an avid Braves fan and spent many nights watching games, through both the good seasons and the bad.

Mary Alice was one of the last Southern Belles, a lady of ladies, proper, well kept, and an embodiment of southern hospitality. She was a deeply religious person who knew the gospel and loved the Savior. She will be best remembered for her attention and service to family, friends and all who were privileged to meet her. Her influence and kind hand have been felt throughout the community and have helped shape the lives of her daughters, son in law, grandchildren, great grandchildren and family friends.

Over the last 35 years, Mary Alice became known as (Mom), partly as a shortened version of Grandmom, but largely because to so many people, that is who she was.

Our family would like to thank everyone during this time of grieving who have gone out of their way with acts of love and support.

Mom, we will miss you.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in memory of Mary Alice Bristol Fraley to the Mountain Home Nursing, Hayesville, NC; or to the Good Shepherd Home Health and Hospice, Hayesville, NC.

Townson-Rose Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
