Olivia Bennett Chastain

HIGH POINT, N.C. - Olivia Bennett Chastain, 87, formerly of Wesleyan Arms and Wesleyan Manor, died Monday, Nov. 1, 2004, of River Landing at Sandy Ridge after ten months of declining health.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, High Point. Burial will be private.

Born in Fayetteville, on Dec. 14, 1916, Mrs. Chastain was the daughter of the late Charles Solomon Bennett and Mattie Olivia Lentz Bennett. In 1938, she was married to Oscar Woodrow Chastain, who preceded her in death in 1976. Also preceding her in death were her infant daughter, Claudia Kaye Chastain, her sister, Claudia Bennett Lyda and her brother, Charles Seavy Bennett.

Mrs. Chastain was a lifelong active member of First Baptist Church. She taught children's Sunday school, was active in WMU, helped with Wednesday night meals, and was a member of the Radiant Club. For many years, she was a volunteer at High Point Memorial Hospital. She found joy in serving others.

Mrs. Chastain is survived by a son, O. W. "Woody" Chastain Jr., and his wife, Jackie of High Point; a daughter, Brenda Valle and her husband, Scott of Greensboro; granddaughter, Amy Kent and her husband, Robert of High Point; granddaughter Lesli Olivia Chastain of Winnipeg, Canada; great-grandson, Jackson Ross Kent; and great- granddaughter Emery Elizabeth Kent.

The family will receive guests at the church immediately following the service; and at other times, the family will be at the home of Woody and Jackie Chastain.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Faith Journey, First Baptist Church, 405 N. Main Street, High Point, NC 27260.
