Hazel L. Basinger

SALISBURY - Hazel Louise Basinger, 86, of Salisbury, passed away Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013, at the Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks.

Hazel was born June 24, 1927, in Rowan County, a daughter of the late Vard Thomas Vanderford and Dicie May Karriker Vanderford.

A graduate of China Grove High School, Mrs. Basinger was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and Faith American Legion Auxiliary Post 327. Hazel loved being outdoors working the garden, her flower garden and taking care of all animals.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ferrell Brown Basinger.

Survivors include nephews Wayne Thompson of Lake Norman and Tony Ray Thompson of Mississippi; and caregivers Rev. Mike Shoaf and wife Angie.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. Friday at the Faith Lutheran Church Family Life Center.

Services: Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3 at Faith Lutheran Church conducted by Rev. Randy Conly, pastor, and and Rev. Mike Shoaf, pastor of Nazareth Community Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Powles Funeral Home of Rockwell is assisting the Basinger family.
