Margaret Kluttz Kirk

Mrs. Margaret Pennington Kirk, 88, of Boone, died Monday, March 16, 2009 at Life Care of Banner Elk.

She was born Sept. 1, 1920 in Summerfield, N.C., to Willie and Ethel Ellen Yelverton Pennington.

Mrs. Kirk was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Boone, and a former member of Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church in Kannapolis. She was a homemaker and a medical receptionist.

Surviving are two daughters, Judy Sink and husband, Samuel, of Boone and Patty Hinshaw of Binghamton, N.Y.; one granddaughter, Amy Lynne Sink of Washington, D.C.; two grandsons, Damon Hinshaw and wife, Peggy, of Alexandria, Va. and Darren Scott Sink of Durham, N.C.; one great-grandson, Benjamin Hinshaw; and one sister, Garleen Graham, of Greenville, S.C.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ralph Clyde Kluttz; by her second husband, Roy Simmerell Kirk; her parents, Willie and Ethel Ellen Yelverton Pennington; and by one brother, C.D. Pennington.

Services will be conducted Friday, March 20, 2009, at 3:00 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church officiated by the Rev. Dr. Tim Smith. Graveside services and burial will follow at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens.

The family received friends Thursday evening from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Grace Lutheran Church, 115 East King Street, Boone, N.C. 28607 or to Duke Alzheimer's Foundation C/O Duke University Medical Center, PO Box 2914, Durham, N.C. 27710 or to Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church, 101 Vance Street, Kannapolis, N.C. 28081.
