William Cotton, Sr.

Thursday, April 9, 2009 — William “Harold” Cotton, Sr., 83, died on April 7, 2009.

The family received friends at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 9 in the fellowship hall of Central United Methodist Church, Albemarle, followed by a funeral service in the sanctuary at 11 a.m. Burial was in Fairview Memorial Park.

Mr. Cotton was born Oct. 28, 1925, in Badin Hospital, Badin. He graduated from Badin High School and attended Oak Ridge Military Academy and Western Carolina University. Mr. Cotton served in the U.S. Navy in World War II as a Coxswain’s mate on the destroyer U.S.S. Robert F. Keller. He retired from Alcoa with 32 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence V. Cotton and Lela C. Cotton, and one brother, John McDonald Cotton.

He is survived by his wife, Julia H. Cotton; his two sons, William H. Cotton, Jr. and wife, Melissa, of Raleigh and John T. Cotton and his wife, Katherine, of Birmingham, Ala.; three grandsons, John Ryan Cotton of Jacksonville, Fla., Benjamin Austin Cotton of Niceville, Fla. and Lee Hawthorne Cotton of Birmingham, Ala.
