Notes for Jack Edward Fagan
Chicago Sunday Tribune October 20, 1940:

Jack Fagan, 12 years old, was wounded fatally yesterday when a playmate's .22 caliber rifle accidentally discharged in the basement of the Fagan home at 7243 Harvard Avenue and he was shot in the heart.

Robert Dancey, 11, of 6952 Princeton Avenue, who held the gun, fled in fright after the shooting, but was found later and turned over to juvenile authorities.

John Holman, 12, of 7139 Eggleston Avenue, who as also present, told Sergt. John O'Halloran of the Englewood Station that Dancey, who had bought the gun Friday for 30 cents, aimed thru a window at a light bulb in the alley. He pulled the trigger twice and the gun failed to go off. Then, the Holman boy said, he turned toward young Fagan, remarking, "wouldn't it be funny if it went off now?" As he spoke the gun fired.

Jack's brother, Jim, had warned him to stay away from the kid that shot him. Jack is buried at Beverly Cemetery in Blue Island, Illinois.
