Mabel Smith Phillpotts

HICKORY - Mabel Smith Phillpotts, 90, Hickory passed away at Brian Center east on Thursday, November 9, 2017. 

Born in Union County on January 29, 1927, she was the daughter of the late William and Pantha James Smith.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband William B. Phillpotts; her sisters Hazel Phillpotts and her husband H.N. "Phil" Phillpotts; and Lucille Kuykendall and 4 brothers Oswald Smith, John Smith, Bob Smith and Coy Smith. 

Mabel was a longtime member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. In her early years during WWII she worked for the telephone company; then she was a mother, homemaker and caregiver most of her life. She met her husband at her sister Hazel's wedding, he was the groom's brother. Later in life she returned to working at the telephone company. Mabel loved serving the Lord. 

She is survived by her daughters Jan Martin and husband Paul of San Jacinto, CA and Patti Jo Allison and husband Robert of Palos Verdes, CA; grandchildren Suzanne Saris and husband Joel, Daniel Martin and wife Sophia, Nathan Martin and wife Laura and John Allison; a special niece Myra Goforth of Hickory; 12 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. 

The family will receive friends on Monday, November 13, 2017 from 10:00 am to 10:45 am at Bethlehem Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. The funeral will be held Monday, November 13, 2017 at 11:00 am at Bethlehem Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, Dr. Wayne Caviness will be officiating. Burial will follow in church cemetery.
