Mary Waller
YADKINVILLE - Mary Elizabeth Teague Waller, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2014. She was born July 5, 1920, to John Angier Teague, Sr. and Gertrude Stevenson Teague in Durham. As the oldest daughter of nine children, she spent much of her time caring for her younger siblings and was affectionately known as "Sister" at home.
Mary lived in Durham for her grammar school years, but when the Teague family moved to Salisbury, she attended Boyden High School and eventually started her long career at Cannon Mills, Plant 7. It was also in Salisbury that she met James Avery Waller, who she married in 1938.
An active member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Salisbury, she was a life-member of the Women's Missionary Society. A favorite scripture of hers was from 2 Timothy, Chapter 4: "I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith. Now there is a crown waiting for me. It is given to those who are right with God."
In 1982, after she had retired, she moved with Avery from Salisbury to Yadkinville, near two of her children. Mary loved children and was always ready to play when her grandchildren and great-grandchildren came to visit; and she never missed a chance to pass on stories about the youngsters to her friends and family members.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Avery, on May 5, 2005, after 66 years of marriage.
Mary is survived by her children: Priscilla W. Eller and her husband, Jerry, of Yadkinville; James A. Waller, Jr., and his wife, Linda, of Norfolk, Va.; and William T. "Bill" Waller, and special friend, Pam Scarbrough of Yadkinville. In addition, she is survived by six grandchildren and spouses, Dene' E. Logie and Allan of Clemmons, Chad Eller and Kim of Mocksville, Kristina E. Waller of College Station, Texas, Byron A. Waller of Norfolk, Shera W. Smith and Michael of Conover, and Shannon Waller of Yadkinville; plus six great-grandchildren, Carrie Logie of Lynchburg, Va., Sarah Logie of Clemmons, Colten W. Eller of Mocksville, and Bryson and Braxton Smith of Newton.
Other survivors include a sister, Virginia T. Pickler of Salisbury; a brother, Bobby V. Teague and his wife Lynn of Linden; sisters-in-law Sarah Jo Teague and Mary Elizabeth Stoner of Salisbury and Elizabeth P. Teague of Clemmons; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and her special friend, Mildred Hale of Bermuda Commons Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
The family would like to thank all of the caregivers from Bermuda Commons and Liberty HomeCare & Hospice Services who so thoughtfully tended to Mary.
Arrangements: Mary Waller will be buried on Nov. 2 in Salisbury. Visitation in Yadkinville will be Saturday, Nov. 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Gentry Family Funeral Service, 5108 US Hwy. 601 in Yadkinville. Her funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Salisbury by the Pastor, Rev. Shean Barret, Hospice Chaplain, Jon Smtih, and Rev. Rick Page, Pastor of Deep Creek Baptist Church in Yadkinville. She will lie in-state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice or to Deep Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, Yadkinville, NC.
Gentry Family Funeral Service of Yadkinville is serving the Waller family.
