Alice Canup Parker

SALISBURY - Alice Clementine Canup Parker, 89, of Salisbury, passed away Thursday, April 10, 2008, at her home.

Born Sept. 5, 1918, in Rowan County, Mrs. Parker was a daughter of the late Edgar Julius Canup and Eva Jane Shepherd Canup. She was a 1936 graduate of Rockwell High School.

She loved flowers and was a homemaker, devoted wife, mother and grandmother. A caring friend, she always looked for the best in people and treated everyone with kindness.

Mrs. Parker was the oldest member of East Corinth Baptist Church in Gold Hill, where she served the Lord for over 76 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy C. Parker, whom she married Aug. 17, 1941.

She is survived by one son, Ronald Parker of Salisbury; three daughters, Connie Poole and husband Robert Poole of Salisbury, Betty Allen and husband Sam Allen of Salisbury and Katie Stoner and husband Tommy Stoner of Richfield; six grandchildren, Angie Tart and husband Anthony of Dunn, Kelly Poole, Ben Poole, Jeffery Parker and Jennifer Parker, all of Salisbury, and Janie Stoner of Richfield; two great-grandchildren, Marcus and Joel Tart of Dunn; as well as one daughter-in-law, Pearlie Mae Parker.

Service: Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 13 at East Corinth Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Johnny Daniels, pastor. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Parker will lie in-state 30 minutes prior to the service.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, April 12 at Lyerly Funeral Home.

Memorials: Memorials may be made to East Corinth Baptist Church Gold Hill, or Rowan Regional Home Health & Hospice.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Hospice and her caregivers for their care during Mrs. Parker's illness.
