Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013 — Edith Evelyn Almond Brown, 91 years of age, of Concord, passed away Wednesday, August 7, 2013, at Five Oaks Manor.
Edith was born August 11, 1921, in Stanly County, to the late Eli Ransom Almond and the late Annie Mae Knight Almond.
She was also preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Martin Luther Brown, who passed away in 1999; grandson, Todd Brown; and sister, Opal Whitley.
The family received friends from 12-2 p.m. Saturday, August 10, 2013, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord.
The funeral service was at 2 p.m. August 10, 2013, following visitation in Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Ronny Russell officiating the services. Burial followed at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis.
She is survived by her sons, Darrell Brown and wife Lucille of Boonville and Rev. Terry Brown and wife Judy of Durham; grandchildren, Jeanne Jenkins and husband Scott of Burlington, Joshua Brown and fiancée Sarah White of Durham and Billy Brown of Boonville; and great- grandchildren, Emma and Trevor Jenkins of Burlington, Jasmine Woody and husband Jered of Honolulu, Hawaii and Alexandra Brown of Honolulu, Hawaii.
Edith was honored to work in the cafeteria for the Cabarrus County School System. She retired as cafeteria manager for Wolf Meadow Elementary School. For Edith, it was not just her employment but her calling. She loved community service and volunteering with St. Marin Lutheran Church. Edith also had a passion for gardening and loved her flowers.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
