ALBEMARLE -- Opal Juanita Almond Whitley, 83, of Albemarle, NC, died Sunday, February 2, 2003 at Presbyterian Hospital.
Ms. Whitley was born November 15, 1919 in Stanly County, NC. She is the daughter of the late Annie Mae Knight Almond and Eli Ransom Almond. She was employed by Stanly County as the Deputy Register of Deeds for 13 years and she was a member of Mission Baptist Church, Locust, NC.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 4, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at Mission Baptist Church in Locust, NC. Dr. Ronald Russell will officiate. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. The burial will follow the services at Mission Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday, February 3, 2003 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Hartsell Funeral Home-Albemarle.
She is survived by son, Tony Whitley of Dallas, TX; daughters, Gail Faulkner of Charlotte; and June Burbage of Raleigh, NC; sister, Mrs. M.L. (Edith) Brown of Concord, NC; seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Clyde Whitley.
