Zelia Overcash Padgett

Mrs. Zelia Overcash Padgett, age 90 of Salisbury, passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice House in Winston-Salem. She was born April 9, 1929 in Rowan County to the late M. Lee and Maggie Deal Overcash. Her husband of 44 years, R.J. Padgett, her sisters, Nellie Park, Gladys Wensil, and Wilma Sells along with her brothers, Lester Clarence Overcash and Walter Howard Overcash also preceded her in death.

Zelia was a graduate of China Grove High School, where she was salutatorian, editor of the school paper and school yearbook. She spent her career working in retail with Erik Anders, and later Roses Department Store, both in Salisbury. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Zelia was a loving and caring person. She had a gift for cooking and thoroughly enjoyed preparing wonderful meals for her family. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Denise Padgett Foutz (Dan) and Daryl D. Padgett (Nancy), both of Salisbury and her sisters, Marguerite Shive and Claudette Brown, also of Salisbury. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Treva Wood, Tony Padgett, Eric Foutz and Kevin Foutz and great-grandchildren, Logan Mendicino, Carson Wood, Zachary and Aidan Foutz, Michelle, Parker, Megan and Clayton Padgett and Marley and Harper Foutz. Also surviving are her step-grandchild, Kim Walter and step great-grandchildren, Morgan Hussey, Jenny Burrow, Sarah Warner and Rebecca Walter and three step great-great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 22, 2019 from 2:00 – 3:00pm at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall. Funeral service for Mrs. Padgett will follow at 3:00pm with the Rev. Dr. Brad Miller officiating. Interment will follow in the cemetery at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

In lieu of flowers, kindly remember Mrs. Padgett with memorials in her honor to Meals on Wheels, 1307 S. Salisbury Avenue, Spencer, NC; or to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 205 St. Paul Church Road, Salisbury, NC.
