Kenneth Ray Shive

BELMONT - Kenneth Ray Shive, 85, of Belmont, died Oct. 10, 2007, at Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.

A native of Rowan County, Mr. Shive was a son of the late Henry B. and Roxie Trexler Shive. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during World War II in the 10th Mountain Infantry and was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Combat Infantry Badge. He was a member of World War II Last Man Club and VFW Post 9337 in Gastonia.

Retired from Duke Power Co., Mr. Shive was a member of Lutheran Church of the Holy Comforter.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Ethan, Hal and Kyle Shive and sister Lena Fincher.

Surviving are wife Marguerite Overcash Shive of the home; daughters and sons-in-law Cherryanna and Ernest Basinger, North Myrtle Beach, S.C., Olivia and Darrell Elium, Salisbury, and Anita and Mark Painter, Belmont; sons and daughters-in-law Colonel Kenneth D. and Hayet Shive, Cairo, Egypt, and Nelson Eugene and Laura Shive, Gastonia; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and sister Kathleen Fesperman, Thomasville.

Service: 3 p.m. Saturday, Lutheran Church of the Holy Comforter in Belmont with Pastor Michael Varner officiating. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Burial will be at Gaston Memorial Park. 

Visitation: 1:30-2:30 p.m. Saturday at the church.
