Sarah Katherine "Cathy" Cornelius

Sarah Katherine "Cathy" Cornelius, 90, of Rockwell, went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 16, 2018 at Autumn Care of Salisbury. 

She was born April 26, 1928 in Rockwell, NC to the late William and Christine Rinehardt Misenheimer. Cathy was a 1945 graduate of Rockwell High School and she attended Pfeiffer College.

Cathy was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, she was a member of the Arthur Shipton Sunday School Class, the Irene Beaver Circle and the Immanuel Seniors. She was a former member of Miller Russell American Legion Post 112 Ladies Auxiliary where she held the office of President, Vice President and other positions; she was currently a member of the Faith American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. 

Cathy was a member of the Red Hat Brigade, she was Coordinator and Volunteer for Meals on Wheels, she was a member of the Rockwell Civitan Club, and she was on her class reunion committee. 

Cathy enjoyed bird watching, gardening, flowers, baking and crafting. She was a devoted mother and more than anything she loved her grandchildren. 

In addition to her parents, Sarah was preceded in death by her husband of over 49 years, James Russell Cornelius, Jr., brothers, W.T. Misenheimer and John Misenheimer, sister, Christine Campbell, and son-in-law, David Knotts.

Cathy is survived by her sons, James Russell Cornelius, III and wife Bonnie of Concord, and Larry Cornelius and wife Natasa of Coral Springs, FL; daughter, Gay Cornelius of Rockwell and Carol Sides and husband Mike of Rockwell; grandsons, J.R. Cornelius, IV and wife Melissa of Mt. Vernon, KY, Jeremy Cornelius and Melinda of Rockwell, David Thomas-Cornelius of Kure Beach, Daniel Thomas and wife Rachel of Rockwell, Martin Cornelius of Coral Springs, FL, Brandon Sides and wife Leanne of Huntersville; granddaughters, Cassie Durden of Rockwell, Angela Kibler and husband Mark of Hiram, OH, Brandi Stirewalt of Gold Hill, Amanda Cornelius and Chris of Ocala, FL, Erin Beckwith and husband Brian of Concord, Linzy Sides of New Orleans, Steffi Sides of Rockwell; she is also survived by 16 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren, her adopted daughter, Marlene Mills; and her beloved dogs, Boo and Pippy.

The family will greet friends and relatives on Saturday, July 21, 2018, 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rockwell, NC.

The memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, July 21, 2018, in the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rockwell, NC, with Rev. Bruce Sheeks, officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
