Margaret Pickler Smith
Margaret Pickler Smith, 88, of Granite Quarry, passed away Monday, November 12, 2018.
She was born December 21, 1929, in Rowan County, to the late Shuford and Lelia Ward Pickler. She attended Granite Quarry High School and retired from RAGS in Rockwell where she was a seamstress. Mrs. Smith was a lifetime member of Lyerly Evangelical Church where her family was a charter member. She was active in many phases of the church from serving on numerous committees to being a former member of the church choir, being active with Sunday School, and holding the distinction of the eldest active member of the church. Mrs. Smith was an avid BINGO player; playing at Rufty-Holmes Senior Center in Salisbury, Bojangles in Salisbury, and McDonalds in Rockwell. She enjoyed flowers and gardening, crocheting, traveling on senior trips, and attending Powles Staton Funeral Home's TLC Group.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Donald Smith; sister, Dorothy Pickler; and brothers, Claude Pickler and Clarence Pickler.
She is survived by her two daughters, Kaye S. Honbarrier (Larry) of Granite Quarry and Ann S. Ciaramello (Michael) of Salisbury; six grandchildren, Heath Honbarrier (Erin) of Colorado, Heather Zimmerman of Salisbury, Shelly Riley (Briar) of Salisbury, Natosha Trexler (Brandon) of Salisbury, Andrew Ciaramello of Salisbury, Christopher Ciaramello of Salisbury; nine great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friend, Ralph.
The family will greet friends and relatives Wednesday, November 14, 2018, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Powles Staton Funeral Home, Rockwell, NC.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, November 15, 2018, in Lyerly Evangelical Church, with Dr. W.C. Gaither, Jr., officiating.
Burial will follow in Lyerly Evangelical Church Cemetery.
