SALISBURY - Bessie Kirk Mickle, 98, of Salisbury died peacefully Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at the Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks.

The daughter of the late Julius Richard Kirk and Ida Cornelia Goodman Kirk, she was born in Rowan County on Sept. 24, 1914. She attended Salisbury City schools, graduating from Boyden High School. While attending Catawba College, she met Clyde Burross Mickle, who she married in 1935.

She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Salisbury, where she served in many capacities. She was particularly interested in the Baptist Children's Home in Thomasville and enjoyed being a member of the Golden Tones and Gold and Silver.

She was an avid bridge player, animal lover, cook and gardener.

Mrs. Mickle was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Burross Mickle, on Dec. 2, 1994.

She is survived by her son, Clyde B. "Bud" Mickle Jr. and wife Betty of Salisbury; two grandsons, Brad Mickle and his wife Elizabeth of Wilmington, Bill Mickle and his wife Lindsay of Raleigh; and five great-grandchildren, Brad, William, Owen, Holland and Blair.

Service: A graveside service will be conducted Saturday, April 6 at 4 p.m. at Chestnut Hill Cemetery by the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Lance, minister of First Baptist Church of Salisbury.

Visitation: The family will receive friends at the home of her son following the service.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials gifts in memory of Mrs. Mickle may be made to First Baptist Church, 223 N. Fulton St., Salisbury, NC 28144: Baptist Children's Home of North Carolina, Inc., P.O. Box 338, Thomasville, NC 27361; The Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks, 820 Klumac Road, Salisbury, NC 28144; or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
