Notes for Betty Jo Harwood
Betty Jo Hurlocker

Betty Jo Harwood Hurlocker, 90, of Mt Pleasant passed away Friday, November 3, 2023 at St Andrews Assistant Living Center of Concord, with her daughter by her side.

Funeral services will be held 3pm, Tuesday, November 7 at Gordon Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant. Burial will follow at St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery. The Hurlocker family will receive friends from 1:30-3 prior to the service.

Betty was born August 23, 1933 to the late Ensley Britton Harwood and Dallie Jane Harwood of Stanly County. She loved family and friends and never met a stranger!  She grew up on her family farm and she was always telling everyone she grew up pulling corn and picking cotton! She met her husband in Mt Pleasant at the hosiery mill and after Fred found where she lived he went to visit and the rest was love and marriage!  This year would have been 71 years of marriage! Betty worked 35 years at Kayser Roth and 10 years in the cafeteria for Cabarrus County Schools before retiring. She loved working in the kitchen and garden.  She was a long time member of Glorieta Baptist Church.

Survivors left to cherish Betty's memories include her daughter JoAnn Blake (Rick), grandson Matthew Blake (Jennifer Kolpasky), sister Patricia Thompson (Doug) and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are her parents, husband Fred S. Hurlocker, grandson Britton Blake, and brothers Spence Harwood, J Sherwood Harwood, and Hal Harwood.

The family would like to express their deepest appreciation and thanks to St Andrews for their excellent care and love and Hospice of Charlotte.

In lieu of flowers donate to St Andrews Living Center, 246 Cabarrus Ave W, Concord, NC, or  VIA Health Partners (hospice) 7845 Little Ave, Charlotte, NC.
