Nellie Earnhardt
Nellie Virginia (Hurlocker) Earnhardt, age 97, of Concord, N.C., died Monday, April 20, 2009, at her home after a long and full life.
She was born January 8, 1912 in the Bear Creek area of Cabarrus County. She was the daughter of the late John Crooks Hurlocker and the late Eltha Emma (Hahn) Hurlocker.
Following her marriage in 1934, she moved into the farm house where she lived until her death.
"Miss Nell," as she is best known, was recognized as an industrious housewife and helpmate on the farm. She was well-known for having raised Collie puppies. She was a member of New Gilead Reformed Church, Concord. A devoted mother and grandmother, Miss Nell was a faithful church member her entire life and an Honor Club member of 54 years of the Extension and Community Association (ECA). A noted community leader, she strived to improve life for all by volunteering, most notably at the LIFE Center where she also spent many years as a Title V worker and, eventually, as a participant. The Department of Aging's Annual Rock-a-thon and caregiver program were additional favorites. Her laughter, deep faith, kindness and hugs were hallmarks of her life.
The family will be meeting at the home at 805 Neisler Rd.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by sisters Mamie Moose and Merle Goodman, and brothers Clifford and Bruner Hurlocker.
She is survived by her: Daughter-Virginia Gail Earnhardt Linker and husband Don of Concord, N.C.; Son-Eugene F. Earnhardt and wife Linda of Concord, N.C.; Sister-Lena Hill of Mt. Pleasant, N.C.; Sister-Gertie Lowder of Mt. Pleasant, N.C. Sister-Glenna Lingle of Rockwell, N.C.; Grandchildren: Jason Earnhardt and Annmarie Earnhardt
Arrangements are being handled by Hartsell Funeral Home - Concord, PO Box 367, Concord, N.C., where the family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday, April 22, 2009. Funeral service will be at New Gilead Reformed Church at 4:00 PM Thursday, April 23, 2009 , Rev. Karen Kaiser-Odor officiating. Interment will be at New Gilead Reformed Church in Concord, N.C.
Memorials may be made to New Gilead Reformed Church; Cabarrus County Extension and Community Association; Cabarrus County Dept. of Aging, Adult Day Health Services.
