Walter George Fisher

RICHFIELD - Walter George Fisher, of Richfield, died Monday, Aug. 13, 2007, at his home.

Mr. Fisher was born March 8, 1925, in Richfield to the late Walter J. and Effie Wilhelm Fisher. He graduated from Richfield High School in 1942 and entered the Navy Air Corps in 1943. Walter was a radioman on Navy planes, serving in the Pacific after VJ Day.

He was a member of Talbert-Wagoner VFW Post since 1946 and served as a volunteer fireman with Richfield-Misenheimer Fire Department from its beginning until his retirement.

Mr. Fisher was owner-operator of Richfield Milling Company. He was a lifelong member of Mount Zion Lutheran Church, serving as a member of the council and on many committees. He had also served many years on Richfield's Town Council.

He loved gardening, fishing and golf and was known for his great sense of humor.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters Kathleen Neely, Jennie Ruth Plyler and Wilhemina Ford.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Mary Ann; sister Phylis Tucker; brother Joe Fisher; daughters Judy Eddy and husband Dave, Patsy Johnson and husband Jerry, all of Richfield; son Terry and wife Myra of Charlotte; grandchildren Shannon Eddy Barrier, Shaun Eddy, Leigh Eddy Nelson, Bethany Eddy, David Eddy Jr., Kyle Manus, Mary Manus, Michael Fisher, Joshua Fisher and Terri Lynn Fisher; and eight great-grandchildren.

Service: Memorial services will be held Thursday at 4 pm at Mount Zion Lutheran Church in Richfield.

Visitation: The family will receive friends in the church's Educational Building immediately following the service.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Mount Zion Lutheran Church, Fisher-Wilhelm Fund, Richfield, NC; or Hospice of Stanly County.

Stanly Funeral Home in Albemarle is in charge of arrangements.
