Notes for Lorena Kay Shankle
Lorena ‘Kay’ Hefner

Mrs. Lorena ‘Kay’ Hefner, 71, of Trinity, passed peacefully on April 8th with family by her side.

Kay was born June 20, 1943 in High Point, the daughter of the late Mark Warren and most beloved Mother Snowdean Shankle. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by three brothers, Mark Shankle, Marchall Shankle and Robert Shankle.

Kay was the wife of Jack Hefner, married in April of 1966. They lived in Trinity for 49 years after spending their first year of marriage in Washington. In her spare time, Kay loved to travel, taking trips to Hawaii, New York, New Orleans and numerous beach trips. One of her favorite traveling companions was her dear mother, Snowdean. She also enjoyed many trips with her beloved Jack, but most memorable were Wyoming and many trips to Graceland to show adoration for her other true love, Elvis Presley. After 40+ years of employment between Alma Desk and Adams Millis, Kay retired from Marsh Furniture.

Kay is survived by her husband of 49 years, Jack Hefner. Also surviving are sisters: Christine Ridge and husband Wendell, Alice Zimmerman and husband Chuck, Wanda Farlow and husband Lee and Jean Shankle. Brothers to Kay are: Alan Shankle and wife Lisa, Phillip Shankle and Ricky Shankle.

Choosing to not be a mother herself, she gave her life to making wonderful, fun and loving memories with her nieces and nephews. Kay was greatly loved and adored by her 10 nieces and 6 nephews. From sleep overs to beach trips, ‘Aunt Kay’ always made time spent with her amazingly fun & memorable.

Funeral will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale officiated by Rev. Roger Carmichael. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Interment will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
