Matilda “Tillie” Bame Wilkie

Mrs. Matilda “Tillie” Bame Wilkie, 88 of North Myrtle Beach, SC and formerly of Salisbury passed away Friday, February 19, 2016 at Carolina Care Center, Cherryville.

Born June 12, 1927 in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late Hoy Adam Bame and Flora Brown Bame.

She was educated in the Salisbury schools and graduated from Boyden High School.

Mrs. Wilkie was a floral designer and was employed for Eller-Wood Florist, Salisbury Flower Shop and later owned and operated the Rose Petal Florist in Granite Quarry before retiring.

She was a life-long member of Shiloh Reformed Church, Faith and was active in the Central Carolina Council Boy Scouts and served as a Cub Master.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, James F. Wilkie on September 17, 1997 and her brothers, Max Brown Bame and William Hoy Bame.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Timothy J. Wilkie, Sr. and wife Lynn of Lawndale; sister, Brenda Ashley of Faith; sisters-in-law, Ruth Bame of China Grove, Betty Bame of Cherryville; grandchildren, Elynanne Wilkie of Gastonia, Timothy J. “T.J.” Wilkie, Jr. of Rocky Mount, Robert Bame Wilkie and Emily Layne Wilkie both of Lawndale.

The family will receive friends from 11 AM – 12 Noon Wednesday (Feb. 24) at Summersett Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be conducted 12 Noon at the Summersett Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Richard Myers, minister of Shiloh Reformed Church officiating. Interment will follow at the Historic US National Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Boy Scouts of America, or Rowan Hospice and Palliative Care.
