Bernice Barringer Whitley

Bernice Barringer Whitley, 84, of Albemarle passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 20, 2022. Mrs. Whitley will lie in state on Friday, August 26, 2022 from 9AM to 4PM at Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care in Albemarle and on Saturday, August 27, 2022 from 10:00AM to 10:45AM at Stony Hill United Methodist Church, where she was a member for over 60 years. A graveside service will follow at 11:00AM in the church cemetery, with Rev. Kaye Fry and Rev. Leslee Wray officiating.

Mrs. Whitley was born March 28, 1938 to the late Woodrow and Maggie Parker Barringer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, A.D. ‘Jim’ Whitley and grandson, Logan Monk.

Bernice was retired from Whitley Well Company, where she worked for more than 55 years. Many of those years were spent working alongside her son John at Whitley Pump & Well. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed being outdoors. She was an excellent cook and loved having a table full of family and friends. She also enjoyed traveling and took many trips with her late husband. After his passing, she enjoyed many bus trips with family and friends.

She is survived by her three children, Cindy Dry (Benton), Lydia Monk (Kenny), and John Whitley (Kathy); grandchildren Ashley Aaron (David), Jackie Flake, Chelsea Dunston (Patrick), Jonathan Dry (Erin), and David Dry (Lauren); great-grandchildren Aubrey & Austin Aaron, Mollie & Madeline Dunston, Colby & Max Dry, and Hope & Levi Dry. She is also survived by her brother, Calvin Barringer, and sisters Frances Barnes, Grace Clark, Nina Whitley (Roger), and Judy Boger (Jim), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff at Hospice of Stanly & The Uwharrie and Trinity Place for their loving care and compassion.
