Jessie DeBerry Pease

Jessie DeBerry Pease, 101, of Boone, died Thursday morning, March 17, 2011, at Life Care of Banner Elk.

Jessie Mae DeBerry was born March l6, 1910, in Baconton, Ga. to D.P. and Tommie Jenkins DeBerry. Mrs. Pease received her masters degree in library science at Appalachian State Teachers College. She served as the librarian at Appalachian Elementary School for 24 years. She was active in the N.C. Education Association as well as many other educational activities. Mrs. Pease was an active member of First Baptist Church, a volunteer with the Watauga Medical Center Auxiliary, and served with various community groups.

She is survived by her children, Nancy Pease Flippin and husband, Jay, of Morehead, Ky., and Tommy Pease and wife, Debra, of Conover; three grandchildren, Brian Pease, and wife, Crystal, of Hickory, Victoria Snyder and husband, Brian, of Indianapolis, Ind., and Emily Maruna and husband, Franz, of Portland, Ore. Four great-grandchildren also survive.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Kenneth Pease, three brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday morning, March 19, 2011, at 10 a.m. at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Roy Dobyns. Burial followed at Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 375 West King Street, Boone, or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Austin & Barnes Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the Pease family.
