Lowell Andrew Shive, 88, of Greenville, died Friday, June 11, 2010.

Born in Salisbury, North Carolina on October 11, 1921, a son of the late Luther Jerry Shive and Katie Holshouser Shive, and Zora Dellinger Shive, step-mother. They moved to Rocky Mount in 1938, and he graduated from Rocky Mount High School in 1939.

Lowell graduated from Mars Hill College and then served in World War II as a fighter pilot in the European theater. He then graduated from North Carolina State University in 1948.

He is survived by his wife Clara Dedmon Shive of the home; three sons and their wives, Jerry Dedmon Shive and his wife, Marsha, Reverend Dr. Ronald Lowell Shive and his wife, Pam of Burlington, North Carolina, Reverend Dr. Stephen Andrew Shive and his wife, Doris of Fargo, North Dakota; six grandchildren, Charles Andrew Shive and wife, Jenna, Emily Terrell Dean, Dr. Megan Shive Cifuni and her husband, Marc, Colin Alexander Shive, Claire Dellinger Shive, and Jordan Thomas Shive; and four great-grand children. Lowell was predeceased in death by a brother Verne Edward Shive.

Lowell was employed with ICI America for 30 years and during that time was a member of numerous textile associations. He was a member and Elder of the First Presbyterian Church, where he was also a member of the Agape Sunday School Class. Lowell enjoyed tennis and golf.

A funeral service will be June 14, 2010, at 1:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, with the Reverend Dr. Pam Patrick Cole and Reverend George Moore officiating. The family will receive friends in the Parlor at the church following the service.

In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to the Agape Sunday School Class, First Presbyterian Church, Greenville, SC.

Cremation Society of South Carolina is serving the Shive family.
