MOORESVILLE - James Allen Benfield, 90, formerly of 1037 Briarhill Rd., Mooresville died Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011 at Gordon Hospice House. He was born in Catawba County March 5, 1921, son of the late Robert and Julia Lambert Benfield. He retired from W.R. Grace Chemical Company. He was in the U.S. Navy.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers, and his wives, Margaret Benfield and Paulie Sherrill Benfield. Survivors include a stepsons, John Sherrill of Troutman, and Mike Sherrill and Karen of Catawba; stepdaughters, Diane Meyers of Dover, Del., Lou Meadows and Dave of Troutman, and Mary Cosentino of Troutman; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brother, Fred Benfield of Mooresville; and sister, Patty Pope of Amity Hill.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, Wednesday, Nov. 30, at Glenwood Memorial Park with the Rev. Steve Newman officiating. Visitation will follow the service.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Iredell County.
