Notes for Evelyn Earnhardt
Evelyn Earnhardt Johnson

SALISBURY - Evelyn Earnhardt Johnson, 88, of Salisbury passed away Friday, Oct. 25, at Genesis Eldercare.

Born Nov. 22, 1924 in Rowan County, Evelyn was the youngest of seven children born to Jessie Daniel Earnhardt and T.C. Earnhardt. She was educated in the Rowan County Schools and was a 1941 graduate of Boyden High School. She helped run the family grocery business in the Chestnut Hill Area during World War II. While raising her three boys, she worked off and on until the grocery business closed in the mid 1960s. Evelyn then went to work at Fulton Street Pharmacy in 1971 and watched a generation of children grow up until the pharmacy closed in the early 1990s. She always enjoyed being around people and music as it was always a part of her life as she played in the school orchestra. Evelyn also loved sewing and cross stitching which she enjoyed giving away and sharing with others. She was a lifelong member of Coburn United Methodist Church and sang in the church choir for many years and was a member of the Harold B. Jarrett American Legion Auxiliary.

She married Roy E. Johnson in 1947 and he preceded her in death on June 10, 1987. She was also preceded in death by her five brothers Vernon, Jake, Paul, Carroll and Robert Earnhardt and one sister, Edna E. Rufty.

She was a proud mother of three sons, Michael and Jerry "J.J." of Salisbury and Tom (Kippy) of Jefferson City, Tenn.; three grandsons, Travis who is serving in the United States Navy, Caleb and Bradley of Jefferson City, Tenn. She also leaves a number of nieces and nephews who continued to stay in touch and she loved each one dearly.

Memorial Service: 12 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29 at Summersett Memorial Chapel conducted by Rev. Sayward Fletcher, Hospice and Palliative Care Chaplain. Family will receive friends following the memorial service.
