ALBEMARLE - Violet Lee Bowers Burris, 81, of City Lake Drive in Albemarle died Friday, Nov. 19, 2004, at NorthEast Medical Center. She was born May 13, 1923, in Stanly County to Dorothy Leona Efird Bowers and Daniel Hobert Bowers. She was retired from Stanly County and was a lifelong member of Plyler Baptist Church. She was married to Ray Von Burris for 58 years. He preceded her in death in 1999.
Surviving are her daughters, Iris Lane Burris and husband Jamie C. Smith of Statesville and Pearlie Rae Burris of the home; her sisters, Mary Lois Russell and Lucille Ussery, both of Albemarle, and Mildred Selander of Ozark, Ala.; her brothers, Hobart Efird Bowers of Buena Park, Calif. and Dwight Heath Bowers of Bakersfield, Calif.; her granddaughter, Shelley Yvonne Smith of Winston-Salem; and her loyal cat, Geraldine.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23, at Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Marvin Honeycutt officiating. Burial will be in Plyler Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 22, at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle.
The family will meet at the home at 35849 City Lake Drive in Albemarle.
