Sunday, June 6, 2010 — Betty Jean Blalock Almond, 72, of 42025 Gurley Road, New London, died at 2:45 a.m. Saturday, June 5, 2010 at Stanly Regional Medical Center. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Palestine Cemetery. The Rev. David Nolan will officiate. Born Dec. 20, 1937 in Stanly County, she was a daughter of the late George Henry and Genie Lanier Blalock. She was a retired restaurant cook with Fast Stop in New London and also formerly worked at the Yum-Yum Shop. She was a member of Palestine United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband, Raymond C. Almond of the home; a daughter, Darlene Almond McCabe and husband, Bob, of New London; four stepgrandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Loyd Blalock, and two sisters, Ruby Watkins and Rosa Lee Mullis. The family will receive friends at Stanly Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. Monday.
