ALBEMARLE — Mary Evelyn Whitley Harkey, 71, 306 Burleson St., died Sunday (Dec. 31, 2000) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.
Born Oct. 5, 1929, in Stanly County, she was a daughter of the late Kelsey E. and Ossie Lee Cline Whitley. She was a seamstress with East Apparel, and a member of Grace Baptist Church.
Survivors include husband Grady Lee Harkey; sons Douglas R. Harkey, Stanfield, and Gary Steven Harkey, Reidsville; sisters Lillie Hinson and Ruby Litaker, both of Albemarle; brothers Grady L. and Lowell “Pete” Columbus Whitley, both of Albemarle; and two grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Hartsell Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Eddie Barbee and the Rev. Sid Martin. Burial, Stanly Gardens of Memory.
Visitation:6-8 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the residence.
Memorials: Hospice of Stanly County.
