Jacob Adam “Jake” Walton

Jacob Adam “Jake” Walton, 93, of Spencer passed away Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at his home.

Born May 20, 1924 in Rowan County, he was the son of the late Adam Lee Walton and Allie Coppley Walton.

Mr. Walton graduated from Spencer High School, Salisbury Business College and attended NC State University. He was a veteran of the US Navy during World War II.

He was employed by NC Finishing Company and Duke Power for over 30 years before retiring.

Mr. Walton was a life-long member of Oakdale Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, on the Cemetery Committee and was a member of the choir. He served on the Rowan County Parks and Recreation Commission and helped with establishing Dan Nicholas Park and Sloan Park.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Johnny Walton, Oscar Walton, Albert Walton; sisters, Hazel Virginia Walton, Gladys Walton, Corinna Walton Kearns and Elsie Walton Brown.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 59 years, Ruby Wyatt Walton whom he married February 16, 1958; children Mark D. Walton and wife Sandy of Oak Ridge, TN and Jill Walton Spohn and husband Philip of Spencer; sister, Naomi Walton Lingle of Spencer; brother, James R. Walton of Chesapeake, VA ; grandchildren, Isaac Walton and wife Sarah, and Caleb Walton of Oak Ridge, TN, Nevin Spohn of Creswell and Ryan Spohn of Spencer; great-grandchildren, David Walton and Ruby Walton and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 10-11 AM – Saturday (Aug. 12) at Oakdale Baptist Church followed by the service at 11 AM with the Rev. Jeff Norton, officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery with Military Graveside Rites conducted by the US Navy and Rowan County Veterans Honor Guard.
