Melvin Hopkins
Charlie Melvin Hopkins, 91, of Salisbury, passed away Sunday, Oct. 4, 2015, at the North Carolina State Veterans Home.
Melvin was born Dec. 3, 1923, in Rowan County to the late John William and Mary Ethel Wiles Hopkins. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He retired from Southern Railway after many years of service.
In addition to his parents, three sisters, infant Hopkins, Margie Sides and Lucille Deal; and three brothers, Ray, O.E. and Alfred preceded Melvin in death. His wife, Sara Honeycutt Hopkins, son Melvin Lynn Hopkins and granddaughter Michelle Hopkins Durrette, also preceded him in death.
He is survived by a son, Michael Dale Hopkins and wife Cathy Boyd Hopkins (of Fayetteville), daughter-in-law Judy Zimmerman Hopkins (Salisbury); and grandchildren James (Jessica, Angier) and Michael R. Hopkins (Casey, Fuquay-Varina); along with eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Service: A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6 at Rowan Memorial Park conducted by Rev. Bobby Seagroves.
