SALISBURY - Mr. Frank W. Kirk Jr., of Salisbury, died Aug. 1, 2012, in Magnolia Gardens, Spencer.

He was born June 9, 1925, in Salisbury, son of Dr. Frank W. Kirk Sr. and Suzanne Smith. After graduating from Boyden High School, he attended Catawba College until entering the U.S. Army Air Force. During World War II, he was an airplane armor gunner (tail gunner) on a B-24 in the battles of Po Valley, Normandy.

After his discharge from the U.S. Army Air Force, he returned to Salisbury and opened his Dry Cleaning Plant, Town & Country Cleaners, in 1952, where he was owner and operator until his retirement 30 years later.

Mr. Kirk enjoyed music, taping movies and being with his family. He was elected for membership in 1947 to Andrew Jackson Masonic Lodge 576. Frank was master of Andrew Jackson Masonic Lodge in 1962.

Survivors include his wife, Grace Rendleman, who he married Nov. 2, 1944, in Charleston, S.C.; three children: Frank W. Kirk III and wife Laura of Carolina Beach, Grace Dawson and husband Jerry of Lake Hartwell, Ga., and Kevin Kirk and wife Carol of Aurora, Colo.; six grandchildren, Chris Kirk, Jason Kirk, Jennifer Meehan, Matt Dawson, Evan Kirk and Alex Kirk; three great-grandchildren, Lucas Meehan, Mason Meehan and Dylan Meehan; and brother Dr. William Smith Kirk of Mooresville.

No services will be held at this time. A private burial will be held in City Memorial Cemetery.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rowan Public Library, or to the donor's choice.

Carolina Cremation is assisting the Kirk family.
