Estelle Miller Ferraro

HARRISBURG - Estelle Mae Miller Ferraro, 90, of Harrisburg, died Sunday, March 19, 2006, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.

Born Jan. 25, 1916, in Rowan County, Mrs. Ferraro was a daughter of the late Gideon Columbus Miller and Bertie Mae (Peeler) Miller. A homemaker, she was a member of the 50+ Club in Charlotte and the Christopher Columbus Club of the Carolinas. Instrumental in the development of Harrisburg, Mrs. Ferraro was a member of Piedmont Area Development Association (PADA) prior to becoming a member of the Harrisburg Water Association and serving on the original incorporation committee for the town. She was a member of the first Town Council and was re-elected for a second consecutive term. She was later appointed by the council to complete an unexpired term for a resigning member. Unknown to many, Estelle carried and presented petitions to the N.C. State Utilities Commission for Harrisburg to have toll-free service when calling Charlotte. Thanks, Mom, for a job well done! A member of Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ, she was a former choir member.

Preceding her in death were brothers Hubert Paul Miller and G.C. Miller.

Survivors include husband Stephen Thomas Ferraro; daughters Donna Ferraro of Concord and Stephanie (Ferraro) Delaney and husband Pete of Harrisburg; sister Nancy Miller McKinney of Denton; and grandchildren Bryan Delaney and Jennifer Delaney.

Visitation: 5:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hartsell Funeral Home at 460 Branchview Drive in Concord. At other times, the family will be at the home of daughter Stephanie Delaney.

Service: 2 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ in Concord with the Rev. George Fidler officiating. Burial will be at Charlotte Memorial Gardens in Charlotte.

The family offers a special thank you to Presbyterian Hospital Pulmonary Critical Care, especially to Dr. Stuart Garner and the nursing staff of 6C at the hospital.
