Bobby Wray Shive

Bobby Wray Shive, 81, of Rockwell, passed away Saturday, July 22, 2017 at his home in Rockwell.

He was born July 13, 1936 in Rockwell, NC to the late Ethan and Kathryn Holshouser Shive. Mr. Shive was a 1954 graduate of Landis High School, a 1957 graduate of Catawba College, and he earned degrees at UNC Chapel Hill and UNC Charlotte.

Mr. Shive was a life long member of Organ Lutheran Church, where taught Sunday School for over fifty years. He was a lifetime member of the Southeastern Treeing Walker Coon Club, he was the chairman of the annual hunt held at the Rowan County Fair Grounds.

Mr. Shive started a career in education as a 7th Grade Teacher at Landis Elementary. Mr. Shive accepted the Principal position at Faith Elementary in 1971, he would remain the Principal of Faith for over 27 years, 17 of those he worked as a quadriplegic following a coon hunting accident. He retired in 1998 after 41 years with the Rowan County School System.

Mr. Shive was an avid baseball fan, he loved working on the family farm, raising coon dogs, and spending time with his family.

Mr. Shive is survived by his wife of over 59 years, Carolyn Ann Moose Shive, whom he married June 8, 1958; son, Brent Shive and wife Annette of Rockwell; Daughter, Cathye Shive Hiatt and husband Rusty of Rockwell; four grandsons, Taylor Shive and Kimber Fink, Corbin Shive and wife Regan, Ethan Hiatt, and Evan Hiatt; great-grandson, Talan Shive; two brothers, Bill Shive and wife Ann, and Terry Shive and wife Lou Ann; and life long friend, Delmar Gorman.

The funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, July 26, 2017, at the Organ Lutheran Church, Salisbury, NC, with Rev. Carlin Ours, officiating. Burial will follow in the Organ Lutheran Church Cemetery.

The family will greet friends and relatives at a reception on Wednesday, following the service at Organ Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Organ Lutheran Church Bobby Shive Memorial Fund.
