Virginia Hancock Eagle
KANNAPOLIS - Virginia Hancock Eagle, 80, of 528 Florence Ave., Kannapolis, died Dec. 17, 2008, at CMC- NorthEast.
She was born Dec. 12, 1928, in Rowan County, the daughter of the late George W. Phillips and the late Gertha Earnhardt Phillips. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Dillard Hancock; and two sisters, Frances Helig and Ruth Meeks.
She was a member of Lane Street Baptist Church. She had previously worked at several hosiery mills in the area.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Lane Street Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Mike Dunn, the Rev. Gene Edwards and the Rev. Jason Pierce. Burial will take place at West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove. The family will receive friends at the church Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.
She is survived by her husband, Harold Eagle; a son, James "Rusty" Hancock Sr. of Panama City, Fla.; a daughter, Shirley A. Byrd of Kannapolis; five grandchildren, Penny Hancock LeClair of Panama City, Fla., James R. Hancock Jr. of Kannapolis, Edward Wayne Hancock of Panama City, Fla., Dearl Lane Byrd Jr. of Kannapolis, Adam Byrd of Concord; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and her sister, Margaret Whittington. Also survived by three stepsons; nine step-grandchildren; and nine step great-grandchildren.
Whitley's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
