Elizabeth Crayton Troutman

MIDLAND -- Mrs. Elizabeth Crayton Troutman died Thursday, September 6, 2007 at age 80. She was born in Oakboro, NC to the late Dallie and Jacob Crayton. As a young girl, Elizabeth aspired to higher education. Begging her parents to go to school at age four, she completed high school at age 15 and started Spartanburg Junior College at age 16. She also attended Pfeiffer College and Appalachian State Teachers' College where she received a degree in Education. Elizabeth's happiest years were those spent teaching at Oakboro High School and Locust Elementary School. She was an avid reader and well-read in history and geography as well as other subjects. She was an accomplished seamstress, cook and flower gardener. Her life had been enriched by the kindnesses of friends, family and former students.

Elizabeth is survived by her husband, Howard Glenn Troutman who had devotedly cared for her throughout her lengthy illness. She is survived by three children, Susan Howes and husband Crayne of Raleigh, H.G. Troutman of Concord, and Jeffrey Troutman and wife Gay of Locust.She is also survived by four grandchildren, Jason Godfrey, Tara Troutman, Katie Troutman and Hallie Troutman; and by two siblings, Doris Garrell and Bill Crayton.

The family wishes to acknowledge and thank Dr. Carl Nordstrom at Locust Medical Services and his staff for their expert and dedicated care of their wife and mother. The family also appreciates the nursing staff of Stanly Regional Hospital fourth floor for their loving and expert care.

Funeral service will be held at Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel in Midland on Sunday, September 9 at 2 p.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service. Rev. Reese Linnell will conduct the service. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens on Lawyers Road.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, or to Hospice of Stanly County.
