Rufus S. Patterson
ROCKWELL - Rufus Simpson Patterson, 87, of Rockwell, passed away Monday, Nov. 10, 2008, at Genesis Eldercare in Salisbury.
Born Dec. 12, 1920, in Rowan County, he was the son of the late Robert and Daisy Fisher Patterson. He was a graduate of Rockwell High School.
A veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp, serving during World War II, he was a member of the Keller Memorial Masonic Lodge and Lyerly Evangelical Church, both in Rockwell. He was also a board member of Nazareth Children's Home for a number of years. Mr. Patterson was a supervisor for Cannon Mills Company, from where he retired.
Preceded in death by a sister, Mary C. Williams, he is survived by his wife of 64 years, Edith Kincaid Patterson; sons David Patterson of Rockwell and Paul Patterson (Myra) of Landis; brother Bob Patterson of Greenville, S.C.; three grandchildren, Jeffrey, Eric and Michaela Patterson; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation and Service: Visitation is 3-4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13 at Lyerly Evangelical Church, Rockwell, with the service to follow at 4 p.m. The Rev. Junior Gaither will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Nazareth Children's Home.
