Marvin Dowell Gobble, Sr.
Marvin Dowell Gobble, Sr, 86, passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2015 in his home at Carolina Estates in Greensboro, NC. Marvin was born in Salisbury, NC to the late John Lindsay and Drucilla Wagoner Gobble. Marvin graduated from Boyden High School, Salisbury, in 1947. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the US Air Force from 1950-1954. He made a career working as an insurance salesman for Hardware Mutual and Sentry, often making top salesman. After retiring in 1993, he taught insurance licensing courses.
Marvin was a member of Emerywood Baptist Church in High Point, NC. He was a Mason, Shriner, and Jester, serving in various leadership positions and volunteering in his community. He had a special place in his heart for the Shriner's Childrens Hospital.
Marvin is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy K. Gobble. In his marriage to Dorothy, Marvin is survived by a daughter, Sarita Yandle and husband, Jay; granddaughter Nicole Perry; sister-in-law Delores Strother and husband Aubrey.
Marvin is survived in his previous marriage to Nell H. Gobble by a daughter, Karin Lisa Nelson and husband, John; a son Marvin D. Gobble, Jr. and wife, Joy; Granddaughters Suzannah Pessagno and husband, Ashley; Emily Butler and husband, Matt; and great-grandson, Bodie Butler.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Shriners Childrens Hospital, Greenville SC, and to Hospice of High Point.
Funeral Service will be Friday, April 24, 12:00 pm at Sechrest Funeral Chapel in High Point. Visitation will be Friday at the funeral home from 10 am to 12 pm. Interment will follow at Rowan Memorial Park in Salisbury, NC.
